Homemade k rations and history
the k ration was developed during the second world war to provde a days supply of food to a soldier. There were many variations of the k ration and there apereance and contents changed greatly through out the war. The main components of a k ration were a can of food and a packet containing : sugar, cereal, chewing gum, cigaretts, drinks powder and other things depending on what the ration was i.e brekfast, dinner ot supper. Heres a look at some of the rations we have made and some information about each on and what is contained in it.
Shown here is the early and late war breakfast k rations show side by side. the outer boxes differ greatly in apperance but the same basic food is supplied inside. Next are some close ups of the early war k ration internals.
One of the many types of chocolate contained in a k ration box is made by hershey. In the bottom right you can see the can of meat supplied with each rations. This one contains meat and eggs.
Here is a side veiw of the plastic bag containing the elements of food. In this pack there is : 2 hersheys tropical bars, 6 biscuites, a pack of sugar, a cereal bar and a block of pk chewing gum.
